How Giacom treat staff.

I worked for Giacom before Covid, which in itself was an odd time, there is no doubting that.

Giacom offered remote working because of the change in the landscape, they offered new contracts which allowed this and it was made clear that this could be from home and you could relocate. This was really no different to any business at the time.

Many staff, myself included decided to relocate where the quality of life was better. Many people did moving to the country and so on.

Post Covid, where everyone has made so much effort to work hard to get through it, with redundancies and work loads increasing but staff numbers decreasing, Giacom then demanded that staff return to the office.

With equal demands on signing new contracts and with the repercussion that if you didn’t do so, you’d lose your job. With no empathy or consideration of the situation of some staff. They seemed to forget the very staff who they know moved away and were no longer near an office could not easily do so. It was tone deaf.

There were even some staff given notices to quit but when they found out that others were going in maternity leave, was quickly wound back but only for less than a year.

This was a company that could not care less for how they treat long term and experienced staff and from many people still there, this has not changed.

I’m glad I left. It makes you realise when you enter a work place that actually cares how much you put up with before, a rubbish salary, lack of pay increases (not even keeping up with inflation), archaic processes and systems and while some of my friends there were great people, the majority were useless at their jobs and got by on the coattails of others.
